Understanding the UK Education System: A Beginner’s Guide

Primary Education
Children in the UK start their education at the age of 5, in Primary School. Primary education lasts for six years until the age of 11. The curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art and Design, Physical Education, Religious Education and Modern Foreign Languages.

Higher Education
Higher education includes degrees, foundation degrees, diplomas, and certificates which are offered by universities and colleges. Generally, Higher Education is done full-time over a period of three or four years for an undergraduate degree, and one or two years for a postgraduate degree.
