How My Health Onsite Has Improved My Overall Well-Being
When I first walked into my new workplace, they told me about their Health Onsite program. I was skeptical, thinking it would be just another corporate wellness plan that would quickly fade out. However, after participating in the program for several months, I can honestly say that it has made a significant impact on my overall well-being.
Introduction
The Health Onsite program is a comprehensive wellness initiative that offers employees various opportunities to improve their health. It includes on-campus exercise classes, healthy food options, periodic health screenings, and dedicated wellness coaches who support the participants throughout the program.
When I first started attending the on-campus yoga classes, I was surprised by how much they helped me during my busy day. Yoga helped me to release stress and tension, making me feel more relaxed and focused on my work. The energy I got from yoga helped me to switch from one task to the other easily and I could complete my work quickly.
Physical Fitness
The company has an air-conditioned gym on-site that includes all major equipment, and at lunchtime or after work, it becomes a busy hub! This gave me an excellent opportunity to exercise regularly, which I had never done previously. I started with a few minutes of cardio and slowly progressed to weight lifting. I found the environment quite motivating, and other people doing the same things helped me to push my limits.
Further, the company also offers outdoor activities such as walking or jogging. It was always a delight to take a break during the day and participate in any of these activities. They not only made me aware of my surroundings, but they also helped me to get some fresh air!
Healthy Food Options
The company cafeteria also changed, and to my surprise, they ended up introducing healthy foods. Now, every day there are salad options and a range of non-greasy, healthy food items which help to maintain my energy levels. These food options do not only help me focus and maintain concentration, but they have also been useful in weight management.
Health Screenings
Every six months, the company arranges health screening clinics where physicians and nurses are available to provide a comprehensive evaluation of our health. I never realized how important this was until I found out that I had high blood pressure. It was a surprising finding since I didn’t feel stressed. However, tackling stress has guidelines which the physician helped me to understand, and I was soon back to my healthy self within a few months after taking these precautions.
Wellness Coaches
Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of this program is the availability of wellness coaches who understand the participant’s life schedules and are always available to offer advice. They develop personalized plans tailored to the participant’s specific needs and do not make the participants feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable. Through having a wellness coach, I gained knowledge on how to manage my stress, adapt to healthier food choices, and balance my work-life.
