How SFSU Helped Me Prioritize My Health

Being a college student can be overwhelming, with a lot of activities piled up, including attending classes, meeting deadlines, and keeping a social life. At times it can take a toll on one’s health, and it becomes challenging to prioritize self-care. However, I was part of the San Francisco State University (SFSU) community, which played a significant role in helping me learn how to prioritize my health. In this article, I will share my experience at SFSU and how it changed my approach towards my health.

The Importance of Health

Before we dive into how SFSU helped me prioritize my health, let’s first discuss why health should be a priority. Your health is an essential aspect of your life, and it affects how you function and interact with the world around you. Being healthy not only improves your physical appearance but also enhances your productivity, mood, and overall well-being.

SFSU Health Resources

SFSU offers numerous health resources that promote student wellness. The first resource that caught my attention was the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center (CRWC). The CRWC provides fitness facilities, including an indoor track, basketball courts, a pool, and other amenities like group fitness classes and personal training.

Another health resource I utilized at SFSU was the Student Health Services (SHS). The SHS provides medical and mental health services, including primary care, urgent care, and counseling. Additionally, they also offer wellness programs like stress management and nutrition counseling.

Healthy Campus Initiatives

SFSU also has several initiatives that promote healthy living. One of them is the Health Promotion & Wellness (HPW) department. HPW is responsible for developing campus-wide policies and programs that promote student wellness. For instance, they organize events like health fairs that offer free health screenings and also provide resources on health education and promotion.

SFSU also has a Healthy Syllabus program that encourages faculty members to integrate wellness into their course syllabus. It promotes learning strategies that address the whole student, including their mental, physical and spiritual health.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being part of the SFSU community played a significant role in my health journey. Through the various health resources and initiatives, I learned how to prioritize my health and well-being above everything else. As you embark on your college journey, remember to prioritize your health and wellbeing. Seek out the available resources in your campus community to promote healthy living.
